About paper

Paper products for the office and classroom fall into two groups: paper you write on and paper you print on. Writing paper includes bound notebooks, top-glued legal and letter pads, pocket memo pads, index cards and loose leaf filler paper punched for three-ring binders. Ruling describes the line spacing: college ruled at 9/32 in, wide ruled at 11/32 in, and quad ruled in a grid. Self-stick notes are small pads with a strip of repositionable adhesive, made by Post-it in dozens of sizes and colors.

Printable paper is cut and scored for a specific job and matched to an Avery template number. Business card sheets hold 10 cards, 2x3.5 in, with clean micro-perforated edges. Tent cards fold to stand on a table for name placards and events. Postcards print four to a sheet; greeting cards fold in half with matching envelopes. Inkjet paper is coated to hold ink without feathering. Heat transfer paper prints a mirrored image that an iron or heat press bonds to fabric.

Students buy notebooks, filler paper and index cards each semester. Offices keep legal pads, Post-it Notes and index cards at every desk and print business cards and tent cards in-house for new hires and meetings. Teachers use composition books, chart tablets and index cards for flash cards. When buying, check the sheet size, ruling, sheet count, whether paper is punched for binders, and for printable sheets, whether it is rated for laser, inkjet or both.

How to pick the right paper and pack size.

  1. Writing paper: ruling and size

    Wide ruled paper suits elementary grades; college ruled is standard from middle school through the office. Quad ruled is for math and drafting. Standard sheets are 8.5x11 in; mini binders take 5.5x8.5 in filler paper. Legal pads at 8.5x11.75 in give more lines per page.

  2. Binder paper and index cards

    Loose leaf filler paper is 3-hole punched for letter binders; mini filler paper is punched for 5.5x8.5 in binders. Index cards come 3x5 or 4x6 in, ruled or blank, in 100- to 500-count packs. Buy heavier card stock for flash cards that will be handled daily.

  3. Printable cards: match the template

    Avery business cards, tent cards, postcards and greeting cards each carry a product number that matches a free template in Avery Design & Print, Word and Google Docs. Check whether the sheet is rated for laser, inkjet or both, and choose matte for text and glossy for photos.

  4. Sticky notes: standard or Super Sticky

    Standard Post-it Notes hold on paper and desks and remove cleanly. Super Sticky notes hold about twice as well and stay on monitors, walls and doors. Flags and tabs mark pages in files. Offices should buy 12- to 24-pad packs; single pads suit home use.

  5. Heat transfer paper

    Avery heat transfer paper for light fabrics prints on an inkjet printer with the image mirrored, then transfers with a household iron or heat press. Use the light-fabric version on white and pastel cotton; dark-fabric transfer paper is a different product. Packs hold 5 to 12 sheets.

Business members buy paper products from SNILLC at wholesale and case-pack prices with a $49 per year membership. Notebooks typically ship 12 or 24 per case, legal pads 12 per dozen, Post-it Notes in 12- or 24-pad packs, index cards in 100- to 500-count packs, and Avery printable cards in packs of 10 to 25 sheets. For 6 or more packs or pallet quantities, use Request a bulk quote in the cart. Members pay by ACH, Zelle or card (3% fee on card). A resale certificate or EIN may be required. Yes. Business members with a $49 per year membership pay wholesale and case-pack prices on notebooks, pads, sticky notes, index cards and printable paper. For 6 or more packs or pallet quantities, request a bulk quote from the cart and SNILLC will price the order.

Which brands of paper does SNILLC carry?

SNILLC carries about 85 Avery paper products, about 70 from Mead, nearly 50 from Post-it, about 35 from Five Star, plus Cambridge, Black n' Red, ACCO and GBC. All are genuine, new products in original packaging.

Do you ship paper nationwide and how fast?

Do you sell copy paper by the ream or case?

Can I print business cards at home on Avery card sheets?

Yes. Avery printable business cards come 10 per sheet with clean-edge perforations. Choose a sheet rated for your printer, open the matching Avery template, lay out the card and print. Matte stock is best for text; glossy is for photos and logos.

What is the difference between college ruled and wide ruled paper?

College ruled paper has lines 9/32 in apart and fits more writing per page; it is standard from middle school onward and in offices. Wide ruled paper has lines 11/32 in apart for younger students and larger handwriting.

Does heat transfer paper work on dark shirts?

Avery heat transfer paper for light fabrics is made for white and pastel cotton and cotton blends; the image is printed mirrored and the fabric shows through light areas. Dark shirts need dark-fabric transfer paper, which prints unmirrored on an opaque white backing.

How should I store paper so it prints and writes well?

Store paper flat in its original packaging at room temperature and normal humidity, away from sunlight. Damp paper curls and jams printers; dry heat weakens sticky note adhesive. Stored properly, notebooks, pads and printable sheets keep for years.
