About light bulbs
Light bulbs, or lamps, are described by shape, size, base, wattage and technology. The letter in a code like A19, B9.5, T10, F15 or BR38 is the shape (A for arbitrary household, B for blunt-tip candle, T for tubular, F for flame, BR and R for reflector) and the number is the diameter in eighths of an inch. Base types matter most: a medium E26 base fits standard sockets, a candelabra E12 base fits chandeliers and night lights, and bi-pin bases such as GY6.35 or G4 fit halogen fixtures.
Incandescent bulbs give warm light and full dimming and remain common for decorative, appliance, low-wattage and specialty uses. Halogen is a brighter, whiter incandescent used in track and display lighting. Fluorescent tubes and CFLs light offices, schools and shops efficiently and need a matching ballast. LED bulbs use the least energy and last longest, and most are drop-in replacements for medium or candelabra bases. HID lamps such as metal halide and high pressure sodium light large outdoor and industrial spaces.
To replace a bulb, match the base, the shape and size, the voltage (120 V line voltage vs 12 V or 24 V low voltage) and a wattage the fixture allows. Check color temperature for appearance: 2700 K is warm, 3500 K neutral, 4100 K and up cool. Facilities standardize on a few lamp types and buy them by the case so every fixture in a building looks the same.
Light Bulbs buying guide
How to pick the right light bulbs and pack size.
Read the shape and size code
A code like B9.5 or BR38 tells you shape and diameter. The letter is the shape (A household, B candle, T tubular, F flame, R or BR reflector, PAR spot) and the number is the diameter in eighths of an inch, so a BR38 is 4.75 inches across. Match the code on your old bulb.
Match the base type
Medium (E26) is the standard US screw base. Candelabra (E12) is the small chandelier base and intermediate (E17) sits between them. Halogens use bi-pin bases such as GY6.35, G4 or G9, and fluorescent tubes use G13 medium bi-pin. A bulb with the wrong base will not fit, no matter the wattage.
Check voltage before ordering halogen
Many halogen bulbs, including the Satco S1987 50 W T4 GY6.35, are low voltage at 12 V or 24 V and run on a transformer. Line-voltage halogens are 120 V. Installing the wrong voltage burns out the lamp or leaves it dim, so confirm the fixture rating first.
Incandescent, halogen, fluorescent or LED
Incandescent and halogen cost least up front, dim smoothly and suit decorative and appliance use. Fluorescent tubes and CFLs are efficient for commercial ceilings but need the right ballast. LED lasts longest and cuts energy use most; make sure LED replacements are rated for enclosed fixtures or dimmers if that applies.
Buy by the case for consistency
Bulbs from the same case match in color and brightness. Satco incandescent and halogen lamps typically pack 10, 12 or 24 per case; fluorescent tubes come 25 or 30 per case; CFLs like the Sylvania 32 W triple tube come in 10-packs. Keep a spare case of each lamp type your building uses.

Business members buy light bulbs at wholesale and case-pack pricing with a $49 per year SNILLC membership. Satco incandescent and halogen lamps are usually packed 10, 12 or 24 per case, fluorescent tubes 25 or 30 per case and CFLs in 10-packs, and case pricing is the best way to relamp a property. Orders of 6 or more packs or pallet quantities qualify for a bulk quote through the cart. Members pay by ACH, Zelle or card (3% card fee), and a resale certificate or EIN may be required. All orders ship from Rancho Cordova, California with tracking.

Retail shoppers can buy a single Satco bulb or a small multipack at retail price, with guest checkout or a free account and card payment. Shipping is free on retail orders of $60 or more and $9.99 under $60. Weekly deals run on the deals page, and back-in-stock alerts are available for any bulb that is temporarily out.
Light Bulbs: questions, answered
Straight answers about buying light bulbs from SNILLC.
Are the light bulbs on SNILLC genuine brand products?
Yes. Every light bulb SNILLC sells is a new, genuine Satco, Sylvania, OSRAM, LEDVANCE, Philips or Westinghouse lamp in original manufacturer packaging. SNILLC does not sell generic or relabeled bulbs.
Can I buy light bulbs in bulk or at wholesale prices?
Yes. Business members pay $49 per year for wholesale and case-pack pricing on incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, LED and HID lamps. Orders of 6 or more packs or pallet quantities can request a bulk quote from the cart, which is common for property relamping.
Which brands of light bulbs does SNILLC carry?
SNILLC carries over 220 bulbs, with Satco making up nearly 200 of them. The rest come from Sylvania, OSRAM, LEDVANCE, Philips and Westinghouse. The range covers 134 incandescent, 30 halogen, 27 fluorescent tube, 13 LED and 12 HID lamps plus CFL and specialty bulbs.
Do you ship light bulbs nationwide and how fast?
Yes. SNILLC ships light bulbs to all 50 states from its warehouse in Rancho Cordova, California, with tracking on every order. Bulbs are packed in manufacturer cartons to prevent breakage, and ready-to-ship items go out fastest. SNILLC ships within the USA only.
Is there a minimum order for light bulbs?
No. Retail customers can buy one bulb. Business members have no minimum either, although wholesale pricing applies to case packs and bulk quotes start at 6 packs or pallet quantities.
What is the difference between a candelabra base and a medium base?
A medium base (E26) is the standard US screw base about 1 inch across, used in most lamps and ceiling fixtures. A candelabra base (E12) is about half an inch across and fits chandeliers, sconces and night lights. The Satco S3219 25 W B9.5 is a candelabra bulb; the S3251 25 W T10 is medium base.
What do the numbers in a bulb code like B9.5, T10 or BR38 mean?
The letter is the shape and the number is the widest diameter in eighths of an inch. B9.5 is a blunt-tip candle shape 9.5/8 inch wide, T10 is a tubular bulb 1.25 inches wide and BR38 is a bulged reflector 4.75 inches wide. Match the code so the bulb fits the fixture.
Can I replace an incandescent or halogen bulb with LED?
Usually yes, if the LED has the same base and shape and fits the fixture. Check that the LED is rated for enclosed fixtures, dimmers or outdoor use if needed. Low-voltage halogens on a transformer, such as 12 V or 24 V bi-pin lamps, need an LED designed for that transformer.
How should I store spare light bulbs?
Keep bulbs in their original cartons in a dry room-temperature closet. Incandescent and halogen lamps do not degrade on the shelf, so buying a case for a property is safe. Store fluorescent tubes flat or upright in the case to protect the glass and pins.
Which light bulbs are best for an office or school?
Most offices and schools run linear fluorescent tubes or LED tubes in ceiling troffers and CFLs or LED in recessed cans. Standardize on one lamp type and color temperature, typically 3500 K or 4100 K, and buy by the case so replacements match the rest of the room.
