The all-metal Swingline 747 Business stapler, rated for 30 sheets, is the best-selling Swingline item on SNILLC. The Vintage 747 offers the same mechanism in classic styling.
Optima staplers with reduced-effort stapling and Optima 40-sheet staples, plus the NeXXt series of modern desktop staplers for everyday office use.
The Swingline Cub, a small desktop stapler that uses standard staples, for home offices, students and anyone short on desk space.
Three electric staplers for high-volume copy rooms and three heavy-duty staplers for thick reports and manuals, with matching staples.
Eleven staple listings: Swingline standard staples 5,000 per box, S.F. 3 premium chisel point staples for cleaner penetration, and Optima 40-sheet staples.
Eight hole punches in 2-hole and 3-hole formats plus staple removers, so every desk can file as well as fasten.
Swingline began in 1925 when Jack Linsky founded the Parrot Speed Fastener Company in New York City. The company introduced the first stapler with a top-opening magazine that took a full strip of staples, a design that made loading simple and became the industry standard. It took the Swingline name in the 1950s and became part of ACCO Brands in 1987. The 747 desktop stapler, introduced decades ago, is still one of the most recognized staplers in American offices.
Swingline staplers are built around sheet capacity. The 747 Business handles up to 30 sheets with standard 1/4 inch staples. Optima staplers use a spring mechanism that cuts the force needed to staple, and Optima 40-sheet staples extend the capacity. Heavy-duty models use longer-leg staples for thick documents. S.F. 3 premium staples have a chisel point that pierces paper more cleanly than standard staples, reducing jams in high-use staplers.
Offices put a 747 or NeXXt on every desk and keep boxes of standard staples in the supply closet. Copy rooms, schools and mailrooms use electric staplers for speed. Legal, HR and accounting teams use heavy-duty staplers and 3-hole punches for files and binders. Because Swingline staples are a standard size, they are one of the most frequently reordered office consumables.
How to pick the right Swingline product and pack size.
Count the thickest document you staple regularly. The 747 Business and most desktop models handle 20 to 30 sheets with standard staples. Optima models with 40-sheet staples go higher. For 60 sheets or more, choose a heavy-duty stapler with the matching long-leg staples.
Standard staples, 5,000 per box, fit the 747, Cub, NeXXt and most desktop staplers. S.F. 3 premium staples are the same size with a sharper chisel point for fewer jams. Optima 40-sheet staples are made for Optima staplers rated at 40 sheets and should not be used in standard models.
If a desk staples hundreds of sets a day, an electric stapler saves time and prevents hand fatigue. Electric models take standard staples in most cases, but check the listing for the required cartridge or strip and keep a spare box on hand.
Three-hole punches fit standard US letter binders; two-hole punches suit prong fasteners and some legal filing. Check the punch's sheet capacity, since punching more sheets than rated dulls the dies. Adjustable punches cover both formats if your office uses several binder types.

The 747 Business and Vintage 747 take standard 1/4 inch staples, including Swingline standard staples and S.F. 3 premium chisel point staples, both 5,000 per box. Do not use Optima 40-sheet or heavy-duty staples in a 747.
Both are standard-size staples that fit the same desktop staplers. S.F. 3 premium staples have a sharper chisel point that penetrates paper more cleanly and reduces jams and bent staples in busy offices. Standard staples cost a little less and work well for light to moderate use.
The 747 Business is rated for up to 30 sheets of standard 20 lb paper with standard staples. For thicker documents, choose an Optima stapler with 40-sheet staples or a Swingline heavy-duty stapler rated for 60 sheets or more.
Yes. The ACCO Brands page on SNILLC lists about 210 items including Rapid staples and tackers, GBC laminating and binding supplies and ACCO fasteners. Stanley Bostitch staplers and staples, a competing line, have their own page with nearly 500 items.
