About ACCO Brands

ACCO Brands traces its roots to the American Clip Company, founded in 1903, which gave the company its name. Headquartered in Lake Zurich, Illinois, ACCO became a standalone public company in 2005 when it merged with General Binding Corporation (GBC). It later acquired Mead's consumer and office products business in 2012 and Esselte in 2017. Today it is one of the largest office and school products companies in the world.

The ACCO portfolio is organized by job. Swingline makes staplers and staples. GBC makes laminators, laminating pouches, binding machines, combs and covers. Quartet makes whiteboards and dry-erase markers. Wilson Jones makes binders and journals. Rapid makes industrial staplers and staples. Derwent is a British fine art brand of pencils and pastels. Mead and Five Star cover notebooks and school paper, and At-A-Glance covers planners. ACCO-branded clips, fasteners and report covers round out the line.

Offices buy ACCO for the basics: a Swingline on every desk, GBC pouches for signage and ID cards, Quartet markers in meeting rooms, ACCO prong fasteners and pressboard covers for filing. Print shops and schools use GBC binding combs for reports. Contractors use Rapid tackers. Art departments buy Derwent. Because SNILLC lists them all under ACC- SKUs, one order can cover the whole family.

ACCO Brands buying guide

How to pick the right ACCO Brands product and pack size.

  1. Match Staples to the Stapler

Swingline desktop staplers take standard 1/4 inch staples, sold 5,000 per box. Heavy-duty staplers take longer legs sized to sheet count. Rapid 19-series fine wire staples fit the Rapid R19 hammer tacker and compatible tackers, not desk staplers. Check the stapler's label before ordering by the case.

  2. Choose Laminating Pouch Thickness

GBC pouches are rated in mil. 3 mil is flexible and suits documents and classroom sheets; 5 mil is stiffer for signs and menus; 7 to 10 mil is rigid for ID badges and reference cards. Confirm your laminator supports the thickness and pouch size before buying a box of 100.

  3. Size Binding Combs by Page Count

Plastic binding combs are sized by diameter, and each diameter holds a page range. Measure the thickness of the document, then pick the comb with capacity above that count so pages turn freely. Binding covers come in clear front and solid back sets matched to standard letter size.

  4. Prong Fasteners and Report Covers

ACCO prong fasteners use a two-piece base and compressor with standard 2 3/4 inch hole spacing. Pressboard report covers come with fasteners pre-attached at the top or side. Pick capacity by sheet count and order by the box for filing departments.

Can I buy ACCO Brands products in bulk or wholesale?

Is there a minimum order for ACCO Brands products?

No. Retail shoppers can order a single box of staples or clips. Shipping is $9.99 flat on retail orders under $60 and free at $60 or more. Wholesale pricing requires a business membership, and bulk quotes start at 6 boxes or pallet quantities.

Which brands are part of ACCO Brands?

Do GBC laminating pouches work in non-GBC laminators?

Generally yes. GBC thermal pouches are standard sizes and thicknesses and work in most thermal pouch laminators from other brands, as long as the machine supports the pouch width and mil rating. Check your laminator's maximum thickness before buying 7 or 10 mil pouches.

What are Rapid 19-series fine wire staples used for?

Rapid No. 19 fine wire staples are for Rapid R19 hammer tackers and compatible tackers, used to fasten paper, felt, insulation, plastic sheeting and roofing underlayment. Their thin wire leaves a small hole. They are not for desktop paper staplers, which take standard 1/4 inch staples.

What is the difference between a Swingline standard stapler and a heavy-duty stapler?

Standard Swingline desktop staplers such as the 747 use 1/4 inch staples and handle up to about 20 to 30 sheets. Heavy-duty staplers use longer-leg staples and handle 60 or more sheets for reports and manuals. Pick by the thickest document you staple regularly.
